Political Landscape

Eldin is composed of four primary city-states and numerous smaller towns and settlements. The Iron Hills, Orness, Deepcrest and Velothi rule themselves and, in some cases, a few settlements close by. Though they maintain close political relationships and band together when the need arises, none is beholden to another. Each of the four city-states also has its own distinct culture and personality, but all generally consider eachother parts of the same nation, even if the Iron Hills can be a bit reclusive and Velothi more than a little mercenary.

Where foreign policy is concerned, Eldin is on friendly and mutually beneficial terms with most of its neighbours. After a few centuries of conflict with Brixton several hundred years ago, Eldin now enjoys a peaceful and economically beneficial relationship with its western cousins. Eldin and Rimuldar are also on quite good terms with one another, and ferries across the northern lake are improving trade and travel between the two nations with every passing year. Mizushiman forces clashed with some of Orness’s soldiers on Eldin’s north-eastern border some years ago, but no more has come of that, as Mizushima’s grasp on lands immediately east of Eldin is still tightening. Traders from Velothi who rely on goods from or own businesses in Mizushima desperately hope for no further shows of hostilities between the two nations.
